The Center For Dance Studies
The mission of Young Dancers In Repertory (YDR) is to provide professional training that fosters growth and communication through dance via creative educational arts programming and performances for children, youth and the general public.
The Center for Dance Studies provides classes for children and teens ages 4 -18 in Ballet and Modern Dance—using the Humphrey-Weidman based technique—along with other dance styles.
Young Dancers in Repertory began as an effort to keep the Humphrey-Weidman dance technique alive. Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman are two of several modern dance pioneers of the early 1900's whose choreography personified the advent of American democracy. Our founders thought it important to share this richness with all youth, regardless of age, aptitude or ability to pay for classes.
Today, students from the Center for Dance Studies learn and practice many of Charles Weidman’s dance principles along with ballet and contemporary dance forms. That being said, our students receive a dance education unlike any other dance school in South Brooklyn through a nurturing and serious dance program for the novice through pre-professional student.
Auditions will be held three times a year. Dates to be determined. Please call 347-702-7155 for more information.
