Mission
To empower boys and young men by providing effective programs and a supportive community
Activities
BCNY’s Character Development & Life Skills programs focus on developing qualities that members will need to succeed as a students in a class setting, an employee in the work environment, a good friend or family member, and a role model in their communities.
Service Learning: Each year there is a Service Learning theme that frames all of the service projects for each clubhouse. Members spend the first half of the cycle learning about the theme. The second half of the cycle is spent planning both small and large service projects related to the theme within the clubhouse and the local neighborhood.
Real Men: Real Men empowers young men to break through limiting stereotypes of masculinity and make positive life choices. Through reading the stories of urban teens, members are able to explore what it means to be a teen growing up in New York City and how to overcome common issues faced in adolescence.
Youth Council: Provides an opportunity for members to learn about the election process and create pathways for meaningful change within the clubhouses.
Streetwise: Street Wise program provides Juniors and Teens with the skills needed to make positive choices in situations that often lead to risky behaviors. Members confront topics such as gang involvement, substance abuse, and forming healthy relationships under the guidance of Junior and Teen Directors and social workers.
Individual Counseling: Members may individually seek counseling with BCNY social workers or may be referred to social workers by their guardian or BCNY staff.
