Mission
Our mission is to empower young people to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment.
Activities
We’ll help you explore different career paths and gain the skills to help you find and keep the RIGHT job.
EPOCH – The Door’s comprehensive career and education program to help you finish your education and gain job and life skills for your future. If you’re out of school and/or out of work and looking to both finish your education and find a job, then EPOCH is the right choice for you.
Bridge Programs (EMT, IT) – Available only in our Bronx Youth Center location, this program helps young people start career pathways that lead to well-paying, in-demand jobs. Currently, we offer introductions to Emergency Medical Technician training and Information Technology (IT and computers).
Culinary Training Program – Available only in our SoHo location, this program helps young people ages 16-24 who have a passion for cooking get started on an exciting career in the culinary field.
Young Adult Program (Project RISE) - Available only in our Bronx Youth Center location, this is an education and internship program for young adults aged 18-24 who have been out of school and out of work for at least six months.
Young Adult Internship Program (YAIP) – This is a fourteen-week program that gives committed young people ages 16-24 who are out of school paid work experience in a variety of professions. If you’re not currently in school and need some help getting into a career, this is a great program for you.
ServiceWorks – ServiceWorks is perfect for young people aged 16-24 (in or out of school) who are seeking volunteer and leadership opportunities combined with job placement assistance. Participants will receive training in leadership and workplace skills, get support in building networks and connections, and participate in volunteer service projects over the course of ten weeks. Become an agent of change in your community!
This Way Ahead – This nine-month program is for young people ages 16-21 who are in school and want to gain job and leadership skills. With a coaching program and the partnership of major businesses (like Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic), you’ll be setting yourself up for success after high school.
Work Readiness Customer Service (WRCS) – This program is for young people ages 17-24 who are out of work and out of school. You’ll get basic training for future careers in the customer service industry and connections to potential employers.
Teens Against Sexual Ignorance (TASI) – For young people under the age of 18 who want to teach others about sexual and reproductive health by leading interactive workshops here at The Door. Done in partnership with our Adolescent Health Center, our TASI peer educators get experience in leadership and education.
Peers Against Unsafe Sex (PAUS) – For young people between the ages of 18-21 who want to become role models and sources of sexual health information in their communities. Done in partnership with our Adolescent Health Center, PAUS educators travel throughout the city to lead workshops on safe sex and sexual health at middle schools, high schools, and community-based organizations.
