Mission

Our mission is to empower young people to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment.

Activities

It is important to understand your legal rights as a young person living in New York City. The Door’s Legal Services Center is here to provide you with different kinds of legal counsel. We offer services in English, Spanish and Mandarin, and can access translators for many other languages. We can help if you are:
A recent immigrant, undocumented (living in the United States without the proper paperwork), or currently in deportation proceedings
In foster care
Pregnant or caring for a child
Homeless and/or living without your parents, or having issues with your landlord
In need of public benefits, such as Section 8 housing, food stamps, Medicaid or welfare, social security, etc.
In need of help with family law issues such as paternity, child support, domestic violence, child custody and visitation rights
Being victimized or stalked
In need of proper forms of personal identification, such as a birth certificate, passport, non-driver’s license, etc.

Beyond the needs listed above, we also provide additional legal services. We hold a criminal law clinic at The Door every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., to provide information to young adults who are currently involved in the criminal legal system.
