Mission

We are an advocate for the plant kingdom. The Garden pursues its mission through its role as a museum of living plant collections arranged in gardens and landscapes across its National Historic Landmark site; through its comprehensive education programs in horticulture and plant science; and through the wide-ranging research programs of the International Plant Science Center.

Activities

Explainers lead seasonal hands-on science and nature activities with visiting children and families. Explainers rotate through activity stations that are located both outside in the Children's Adventure Garden and inside the Discovery Center. They work in pairs or small groups at stations to support and learn from each other, as well as participate in mentor group activities with more experienced Explainers. Intern Explainers receive 25 hours of training prior to leading activities. They gain experience in basic job skills, teaching children, public speaking and learn more about the environment through first-hand experiences.
