Pow! Drawing Comics
- Uptown Stories
- (929) 27-STORY
Mission
Uptown Stories inspires kids to discover and develop their inner voices in a diverse community of writers. Based in upper Manhattan, we offer small-group writing workshops for children ages eight to fifteen, led by master teachers and professional authors. To ensure our workshops are accessible to all children, tuition is pay-what-you-can. Uptown Stories creates an exciting, challenging, and supportive community in which young authors thrive.
Activities
In this workshop, students will learn how to use cartooning vocabulary to tell their own stories, from ordinary, everyday events to the most fantastic realms of a child’s imagination. Little art experience is needed, just an interest and a passion for making work. Students will be taught every stage of comics illustration development, including pin-ups, single-frame and multi-frame pages, using art materials such as pencil, pen, ink wash and watercolor and collage materials. At the end of the semester, all the students will participate in a gallery show at the WordUp Bookstore, and have their best work printed in a class anthology, giving everyone a chance to have their work spotlighted and celebrated.
