Mission

Our mission is to help children become lifelong readers by empowering communities to provide individualized instruction with measurable results.

Activities

Reading Partners works to expand life opportunities for elementary school children in low-income communities by empowering them with strong literacy skills. We recruit and train community volunteers to work one-on-one with students. With just 1-2 hours a week, you can make a huge difference in the lives of children who have fallen behind in reading and are at risk of falling further. One-on-one instruction at the student's reading level provides the opportunity for individualized academic attention and a healthy learning relationship with you, the volunteer. Volunteers are, in turn, supported at all times by Reading Partners school site coordinators and staff.

We also partner with high schools across the city to offer unique, high-quality, community service and internship opportunities for students 14 and older.

We are recruiting for the 2017-2018 school year for our programs in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.

Eligibility

Volunteers Do Not Need To Have Previous Experience! What We Do Ask Them To Have Is: A Willingness To Devote One To Two Hours A Week To Helping A Young Reader Compassionate About Making A Difference! Willing To Commit To Our Program Model. A Good And Professional Attitude, With Knowledge That They Are Representing Reading Partners.
