To empower boys and young men by providing effective programs and a supportive community
Activities
The Josie Robertson School of Music and Art encompasses visual, digital, and performing arts. BCNY offers private and group music instruction with professional musicians in state-of-the-art music studios. Boys can also explore drama and dance, and our art studios offer painting, sculpture, and digital and dark-room photography. In addition, boys can learn graphic animation, filmmaking, Photoshop, and music production.
Music Production: Allows Teens to explore the process of music creation from crafting lyrics to developing beats to producing and mixing a song.
Graphic design: Gives members the opportunity to learn to use professional design software like Adobe Photoshop.
Animation: Exposes members to different techniques and animation computer software. Members create projects in computer animation, clay animation, stop motion film, and special effects.
Drama: Encourages members to explore their performance and acting skills through a variety of theater and drama activities.
Dance: With professional dance instructors, members explore creative expression through movement by learning different dance techniques.
Cultural Arts: The Cultural Art Department is dedicated to introducing members to cultural diversity through a variety of games, stories, arts, craft projects, and dance.
Visual Arts: BCNY’s staff of professional artists and art instructors guide members through learning techniques for different artistic mediums including drawing, painting, and sculpture.
Photography: The photography program progressively builds members’ skills from basic photo composition and camera operation to independent film development and printing using dark-rooms.
Music Education: The Music Education Department boasts state-of-the-art music studios and a staff of professional musicians that provide small group and individual lessons to members in guitar, bass, drums, piano, saxophone, flute, violin, ukulele, vibes, and chorus.
