At Uptown Stories, we believe that writing is an essential tool for self-expression, critical thinking, and academic success. Based in upper Manhattan, we offer small-group writing workshops for children ages eight to fifteen, led by master teachers and professional authors. To ensure our workshops are accessible to all children, tuition is pay-what-you-can. Uptown Stories creates an exciting, challenging, and supportive community in which young authors thrive.
What do Star Wars, Hunger Games and Wonder Woman have in common? They all started as great ideas, that were turned into awesome stories, then into unbelievable movies.
If you have a great movie idea, here's your chance to get busy writing it down in a way that will make your idea jump off the page and onto the screen. We'll show you how to write a mini-script just like the professionals that includes scene headings, dialogue, transitions, and camera shots. You'll work with your fellow screenwriters to get and give suggestions as you all write the next summer blockbuster. Ideas for action, comedy, drama or anything in between are welcome, and at the end of the session, they will be brought to life with professional actors at the WordUp Bookstore in front of an audience packed with your family and friends.
