Mission

Students from around the globe come to New York City to pursue their passions in a rigorous, academic setting. With five distinct programs to choose from, ranging from entrepreneurship to dance, you have the unique opportunity to explore an area of interest on a deeper level through both in-class discussions and city exploration. As part of the learning experience at Barnard, you will get a taste of both college life and the Big Apple!

Activities

Students select two courses, a morning class and an afternoon class to be attended Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Courses range in subject matter, including History, STEM, Art History, Acting, Writing, Religion, and Film Making. On Wednesdays, Summer in the City students participate in the Beyond the Gates seminars and College Prep workshops. For Beyond the Gates seminars, students visit professional organizations or attend on-campus seminars. These sessions introduce students to different fields and the education or professional training they require. College Prep workshops are offered with staff members of the Barnard Office of Admissions to help students jumpstart their college search and enhance their college application.

Eligibility

Admission Is Selective, And Is Based On Strong High School Records, Recommendations, And A Personal Statement. Applications From Students Whose Preparation May Vary Are Welcome, Especially If They Reveal Unusual Talents And Interests That Can Be Developed Further In This Program. Applicants Must Have Completed The Tenth Or Eleventh Grade Of High School By June 2018.
