Young Men's Tech Program

  • All Star Code Summer Institute

Mission

A PREP PROGRAM CONNECTING YOUNG MEN OF COLOR TO THE TECH INDUSTRY

Activities

We prepare qualified young men of color for full-time employment in the technology industry by providing mentorship, industry exposure, and intensive training in computer science.

Our flagship Summer Institute consists of programming labs, interactions with leading professionals, field trips, and leadership skills development. Field trips to technology company offices afford young men the opportunity to envision a career pathway as they network with professionals on-site.

Our year-long program consists of workshops, student-centered activities, summer instruction, and other components that include talks, demos, and talks led by inspiring entrepreneurs, CEOs, developers, designers, and computer science majors.

Mentors are key. Tech professionals serve as mentors and role models throughout the program, each aligned with All Star Code’s mission. Ongoing interactions with professionals in the local tech community serve to dispel misconceptions about computer scientists and the environments in which they work. Student alumni receive ongoing mentorship and networking with leading technology companies (established and startups) over the course of 4-5 years as they make choices about what to study, where to do it, what sort of summer internship programs to aim for, and so on.
