SculptureCenter's Public Process High School Summer Program is a free three-week summer intensive program (July 3 - 21, 2017) held at SculptureCenter's exhibition space and at public art sites throughout New York City.

Public Process offers high school students the opportunity to become informed and active citizens in commissioning a work of art, to gain hands-on experience in civic cultural representation, and to introduce an innovative new artwork to the public realm. Program participants explore the city's public art landscape and learn about its history and future from the people who create today's most visible cultural projects. Throughout the program, students visit public art sites, meet with arts professionals, and learn from artists in their studios to gain a deeper understanding of what goes into creating a public artwork. At the culmination of the program, students form a selection panel and choose a temporary public artwork to be produced by SculptureCenter for a site in Long Island City, Queens. Past Public Process classes have commissioned Mika Tajima's Meridian (Gold) for the waterfront of Hunter's Point South Park and the forthcoming Words Like Love: Alphaville, First Scenes, a billboard for Jackson Avenue by Alejandro Cesarco.

Program Details
Public Process is free summer intensive program. School credit and community service hours are available to qualified students. All students accepted into the Public Process program will receive an MTA MetroCard to subsidize their travel expenses, along with a daily snack and writing materials.
